We cannot get through this life unwounded, but our wounds are more tender when we are young and
vulnerable. The adults in our childhood may not have been able to provide the safety and love we
needed, and we may have felt rejected, abandoned, shamed, or betrayed. As we integrated painful
beliefs about our own lovability, we forgot who we were born to be.
