PSYCHOTHERAPY

What Is Psychotherapy?

With a 30+ year career as a Licensed Psychologist, I have been privileged to provide psychological assessment and psychotherapy in a variety of settings including hospitals, medical schools, outpatient clinics, and private practice. While I have loved my work with clients, I have increasingly become disillusioned with the medical model of diagnosing and treating mental health issues. I am especially concerned about the influence of insurance companies over the length of treatment and types of modalities psychologists can use.

My work over the years has been influenced by many approaches:  Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization, Energy Psychology, and Internal Family Systems.  While these approaches have merit and can be helpful to many in alleviating distressing symptoms, I find many of them may provide short-term solutions and fail to address some of the most important and meaningful challenges in life.  Clients complete treatment free of symptoms but find themselves searching for more.

Heavily influenced by Carl Jung, I provide psychospiritual psychotherapy for people who are searching for answers:  How can I understand myself on a deeper level? How do I find meaning in my life?  What aspects of myself are getting in my way of having peace?  What is my purpose in this world? Because I do not diagnose or accept insurance reimbursement, I am free to help you explore your own unique experiences of life, love, and spirituality through dreamwork, synchronicities, and creativity.

How much does Psychotherapy cost? Do you take insurance?  I have made a conscious decision not to work with health insurance.  This means that I am not in network with any insurance companies, nor do I provide a “superbill” for out of network reimbursement.  While I do keep records as required by law, I am not required to provide a diagnosis to or to obtain authorizations from insurance companies in order to get reimbursed for sessions, so your private information stays completely confidential.

  • Because I do not have the overhead of billing insurance, I am able to offer sessions for a much lower rate:  $100 for 60 minutes, $150 for 90 minutes.

How long does Psychotherapy last?  Sessions are weekly or biweekly for as long as it is mutually desirable.

Where does Psychotherapy take place?  Currently, I am able to meet with you in a local office in Morganton or through telehealth if you are not local.  I am currently only licensed to practice psychotherapy in North Carolina.
